My Teachers

Richard Todd teaches classical guitar and music theory at Tennessee State University in Nashville.

He is an amazing teacher. Patient, kind, demanding and encyclopedic in his knowledge of guitar technique and repertoire. His mastery of music theory and the way theory collides with the guitar is truly unbelievable.

My time working with Richard has transformed my playing completely.

His online home is: www.richardtodd.us

My Teachers

Billy Newman teaches Brazilian jazz guitar in Brooklyn, New York.

I studied for two years with Billy while I was living in Brooklyn. Billy hasĀ one of the most amazing collections of fantastic guitar repertoire I’ve ever heard of. Every week, he brought out another amazing piece that would challenge my guitar skills AND that I loved learning how to play.

If you’re ever in New York, definitely check out Billy. He plays around New York frequently, and you can learn more about him at www.billynewman.com

I have also had the good fortune of studying with Jamie Andreas of www.guitarprinciples.com

Jamie’s book The Principles of Correct Practice for GuitarMy Teachers
remains one of the guitar books I refer to most often. If you are willing to slow down and really pay attention to your playing in order to reap mighty rewards, then definitely pick up a copy and apply it.

Since I have studied Jamie’s methods through her books, essays and also through in-person lessons, I am happy to help you apply the Guitar Principles approach. Contact me to learn more.
